10/24/19
Hey family and friends, it's my second week in the CCM. I feel like it's been so long already but I'm having so much fun too. My Spanish is getting a little better. I'm learning so many words and memorizing a lot. I'm in class like all day haha. My companero es muy bueno. He's really fun to talk to and we get along good. The food has been kinda good but it makes you have to go to the bathroom like a ton haha. The culture down here is really interesante and really cool. You can hear people honking their horns in the streets and music playing like all the time even at night haha. I'm honestly having so much fun here getting back into a schedule and everything. It's just like High School. I'm really grateful for the gift of tongues this week because it's helped me be able to talk more in Spanish even if I can't say things good yet, it's really cool. Because before I left I didn't know much Spanish at all, but now my vocabulary has become way bigger. The spirit is always so strong here everywhere you go. Next week on my preparation day I will get to go to the Mexico City Temple. I'm so excited for that because it looks really cool in pictures and probably even for in person. They also have these really cool ties there that you can buy. I'm probably gonna get a couple haha. I have had a lot of chances to practice contacting strangers and it was a little awkward at first but now I'm getting used to it. It's really fun because we just have a conversation and talk. I'm super excited to be a part of something so great and fun. I love you all and can't wait to talk to you all next week.
Here's a summary of each day of this week:
Sunday Oct. 20, 2019
Today was very spiritual and fun. We had sacrament meeting in Spanish and all our lessons. I learned a lot about needing to have perfection through Christ and not of the world, and we need to do as much as we can to be like him.
Monday Oct. 21, 2019
Today we just practiced lots of Spanish and learned a lot of words and phrases. It was a lot of hard work. We practiced contacting people and it was a really good experience for me. We had a service project that day and got to clean and help pick up trash around the CCM.
Tuesday Oct. 22, 2019
Today makes my first week in the CCM and it was cool because new missionaries were coming in and we weren't the new ones anymore. Every time we see new missionaries we say bienvenidos. It's really fun.
Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019
Today was just a normal day. We went to our classes and studied Spanish. We watched videos about safeguards and how to properly use our phones. The food made me and my companion sick and we had to use the bathroom a lot haha. We are good now.
This week went by so fast like right after Sunday to week flew by.
I know that my Heavenly Father has been watching over me and protecting my family and I know that the gift of tongues is real. I'm getting better at Spanish somewhat. I can't wait to talk to you all next week.
Adios.
Orson Portlock has been called to serve for 2 years in the Texas San Antonio Mission, speaking Spanish.

First week of mission
10/19/19
Hola mi familia y amigos. I'm so happy to finally get to write to you all about my first week at the CCM. To start out, Mexico City is an amazing place and really big. Haha. Everything from when you're off the plane to anywhere else is all Spanish and the people all are too. When I got to the Missionary Training Center it was almost dinner time because we had a lot of traffic. Haha. So when we got all checked in, we finally got to put our stuff in our casa. I got to meet my companion on the plane and he'll come with me all the way to Texas as well. His name is Elder Coleman and he's from Utah too. We had a devotional that night as well and there was also a broadcast from the Provo MTC. Elder Cook and his wife spoke on missionaries and what their purpose is. They also talked about enduring to the end. I know that a mission is going to be really hard but if we endure to the end we will be blessed. After the devotional we went back to our casas and unpacked, showered, and went to bed. Quick funny story but all the showers I've had this week have been super icy cold, so now I'm kinda used to having a quick cold shower. Haha My Spanish is coming but it's really slow and I know that I will be able to speak in Spanish eventually but that's only if I make an effort and try.
Here's a small review of each day this week:
Day 1 October 16
We had all our classes today and gym orientation. We toured the whole CCM and learned about stress and how to deal with our emotions and stuff. We got to meet our district and MTC president. It was really cool. The food was pretty good and they have a pretty good variety of food.
Day 2 October 17
Today was really challenging and hard because of all the classes. We are constantly busy and doing something. Speaking Spanish is pretty hard to do but it will come eventually. It rained a lot today as well and we had to use a jacket too. I've been working on memorizing the first vision in Spanish. It's pretty hard but I'll get it. I've also been working saying prayers in Spanish too.
Day 3 October 19
So far today it's been good. It's my first preparation day and I get to write all of you guys. Haha.
I'm so happy to be here and be a part of something big. I have started my adventure. I have preparation day on Thursday next week so I will talk to you all then.
Adios.
